The Sasol League is in full swing now as most teams are positioning themselves for what could possibly be an epic season of women’s football in South Africa.
Down in the Mother City, Cape Town Roses have surged to the top of the standings following some standout performances early in the season. They will be hoping for that similar showing on Sunday, 7 May when they welcome Burnley United at the NY 49 in Gugulethu. Fellow title contenders, Ikamva FC travel to Williams Herbert Sports ground to take on seventh-placed Spurs Ladies on Saturday, 6 May.
De’ Scorpion showed they mean business in the North West when they thrashed Icons Ladies last weekend and will be gunning for top spot when they visit The Bold & The Beautiful at the Huhudi Stadium on Saturday. On the same day, a classic clash will take place in Montshioa when bottom side Icons play host to top of the table Golden Ladies.
The Northern Cape streams return to action this weekend when stream A sides Tlhaping Flowers and Sparrows Ladies lock horns at Dithakong, while Uprisers Ladies tackle Black Spurs at the Bergsig Sport grounds. Both fixtures will take place on Saturday. A few kilometres away in stream B, Galeshewe ladies welcome Royal Wizards at the Redirile School Grounds while Ritchie All Stars travel to Papierstad to take on Junior Tigers Ladies.
The Free State region has a mouth-watering clash on the cards as inform sides, Ace Milan and Nigol FC fight it out at Gerrie Lewis, while Bloemfontein Celtic FC travel to Botshabelo to take on Ayebush FC – both fixtures will take place on Sunday afternoon.
In Gauteng, top of the table TUT-PTA make the short trip to Tembisa on Sunday to take on second place Palace Super Falcon at the Mehlareng Stadium in what promises to be the clash of the weekend as the two sides hope to outsmart one another for that number one spot.
