Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis believes discipline will be key when they face neighbours Zimbabwe in the semifinals of the 2019 COSAFA Women’s Championship.
Banyana Banyana managed to comfortable will all three group matches embarrassingly beating Comoros Islands (17-0) before scoring 3 goals against both Malawi (3-1) and Madagascar (3-0).
Ellis says the team needs to be better on the ball than they were in the group stages as Zimbabwe is very formidable opponent.
“We have played them often enough, they know as much of us as we of them. We know their fullbacks are attack minded and they have scored goals through different players. So, we need to be disciplined, especially at the back.
“When we win the ball, we need to be better than we have been in the group stages, rotation of the ball need to be better. Players need to be disciplined in their roles.” Ellis said
Zimbabwe and South Africa meet on Thursday, 8 August at Wolfson Stadium. Kickoff is at 15h30.
