Ajax Cape Town has signed Ghanaian defender, Lawrence Lartey, on a two (2) year deal.
Lartey started training with Ajax CT’s PSL side last week and played in the club’s two friendly matches against National First Division outfits Milano and Santos.
The tough-tackling defender captained the Ghanaian U20 team at the 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup, where they won a bronze medal after beating Iraq 3-0 in the third/fourth place play-off. Lartey went on to represent and captain Ghana at U23 level. He made his full international debut for the Black Stars in September 2015, when they defeated Congo Brazzaville 3-2 in an international friendly.
Ajax Cape Town CEO, Ari Efstathiou: “We have been trying to lure Lawrence to join us since 2013 and we are thrilled to have him join Ajax CT. He is a natural leader with fantastic international experience. He is a strong, quick and very intelligent defender and a very valuable addition to the Ajax squad, especially going into our upcoming CAF campaign.”
The 22-year-old helped his former side Ashanti Gold win league honours in the 2014/15 season and was subsequently selected for the Ghana Premier League Team of the Season for his outstanding performances throughout the season.
“It has been good to be part of a club with so many good young players. This is a great club in general and the players here are on a good level. The facilities are the best I’ve experienced so far. South African football has developed a lot; I can see myself developing into a better player here. This is a good step in my career, I am happy to finally sign for Ajax,” said Lartey.
