Banyana Blow 2-0 Lead To Draw With Argentina

Banyana Banyana blew a big chance of securing their first ever World Cup victory after playing to a disappointing 2-2 draw with Argentina in their second FIFA Women’s World Cup Group G match at the Dunedin stadium on Friday morning (SA time).

The African champions lead 1-0 at halftime after a tap in goal from Linda Motlhalo. Motlhalo slotted in after a cross from Thembi Kgatlana in the 30th minute. The goal was initially given as an offside before it was later given by VAR.

Desiree Ellis’ team created numerous opportunities but failed to take advantage of their dominance with Kgatlana the biggest culprit.

However, Kgatlana finally got her goal in the 66th minute to make it 2-0.

Banyana were cruising at that stage, and looked like they were on their way to claim three points until Sophia Braun pulled a goal back for Argentina with 15 left.

Then, Romina Nunez made it 2-2 in the 78th minute.
