DStv Premiership Final Day wrap: Stellies Survive, Chippa Into Playoffs And Chiefs Secure Top 8

Stellenbosch FC remain in the DStv premiership after securing a much needed point after holding Golden Arrows to a 0-0 draw on the final day of the 2020/21 DStv Premiership season at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Stellies needed to avoid a defeat to make sure they play in the top league next season in case Chippa United win against SuperSport United and they did enough by getting a point away to Arrows.

Anyway, The Chilli Boys failed to get three points after conceding a last-minute goal in their 1-1 draw at home to SuperSport United. Andile Mbenyane gave Chilli boys hope when he scored with 18 minutes left before Onismor Bhasera levelled matters on the stroke of fulltime.

Chippa will participate in the promotion/ relegation playoffs against the teams that finished second and third in the GladAfrica Championship.

In another meaningful clash on the final day in Mbombela, Kaizer Chiefs secured top eight spot after they scored a hard fought 1-0 victory over TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium. The only goal of the match came via Samir Nurkovic’s header with 25 minutes gone and with the results, Amakhosi leapfrogged Galaxy on better goal difference.

Champions elect, Mamelodi Sundowns scored three goals as they comfortably beat Cape Town City 3-0 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium

Lyle Lakay opened the scoring in the 10th minute before marksman Peter Shalulile scored a second half brace in the 76th and 82nd minutes, respectively.

The rest of final day results:

Orlando Pirates 0-0 Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila

Black Leopards 1-1 Bloemfontein Celtic

Swallows FC 1-1 Baroka
