FC Cape Town is proud to announce a five-year partnership with Investec. The agreement was made ahead of the new National First Division (NFD) season and will see the club wearing the Investec kit for their first match.
Errol Dicks, chairman of FC Cape Town, said: “We are proud to be associated with an international brand like Investec. FC Cape Town has embarked on an ambitious programme to overhaul the club by appointing a new technical team and revamping the various structures. We have come a long way since our inception and the partnership with Investec is another step in the right direction. It’s a new dawn for FC Cape Town as we seek to reach the pinnacle of South African football, the PSL.”
Raymond van Niekerk, global head of Investec marketing, said: “Since 1980 when Investec obtained its South African banking licence in Cape Town, the business has had a home there, and a love for the Cape. This heritage, coupled with our philosophy of living in a society and not off it, led us to the partnership with FC Cape Town. Our brand is showcased through many local and global sponsorships, from the Investec Ashes to the astroturf at Hoer Meisieskool Bloemhof in Stellenbosch. We are very excited to welcome FC Cape Town to the Investec fold. This FC Cape Town-Investec partnership will predominantly focus on developing young individuals with skill and providing them with opportunities that wouldn’t normally be afforded to them. We are in this to change lives, grow talent and hopefully make some dreams come true. And perhaps get our team into the PSL one day”.
The partnership with Investec allows FC Cape Town to deliver their potentially life-changing Investec DreamPlay development programme and the Investec Elite Academy into the community, allowing children to aspire to play the beautiful game at the highest level.
John Comitis, director and joint venture partner of FC Cape Town, said: “Football Club Cape Town, there can be no purer name to represent the mother city’s football aspirations. Cape Town needs a second and third PSL club to re-ignite the rivalry and to fulfil the desire of aspiring football players in the Western Cape. It has taken me two years to recommit fully to any football project in South Africa. When I identified that Investec had the common vision of uplifting Cape communities through sport, the DreamPlay concept was born. The Investec and FC Cape Town partnership has presented the opportunity to develop young disadvantaged Capetonians into world class players in Europe. A successful partnership is likely to contribute to the development of our local people in sport and to provide world class standard sporting initiatives in the mother city.”
The Investec DreamPlay programme and Investec Elite Academy may well become a big exporter of local talent to Europe, with the by-product ideally being PSL promotions. With a formidable team of professionals consisting of top coaches, scouts and football administrators gathered to head this project, the future belongs to our youth.
