Kaizer Chiefs forward Ashley Du Preez has expressed his disappointment and hurt following Amakhosi’s controversial MTN8 semifinal elimination at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns.
Chiefs lost the second leg 2-1 with the referee Luxolo Badi failing to award them a penalty in injury-time after Thapelo Maseko forcefully kicked Mduduzi Mdantsane inside the box . Sundowns won 3-2 on aggregate to advance to the final, and will play Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on the 7th of October.
“It’s very tough; it’s still hurting,” Du Preez told the club’s official website.
“I think we had a massive opportunity to put our hands on the trophy and make history.
“It didn’t happen and we are very hurt about it. It’s going to be tough to move on, because we know we haven’t won a trophy in years and we really wanted to change that, especially to make the fans happy. We failed them and we failed the Club.
“But, there is still a lot to play for and this must be a learning experience for us, which we must take into our next games by winning every weekend. Only that will make us feel better as a Club, and as supporters.”
Du Preez and his teammates will have an opportunity to bounce back on Wednesday when they host Sekhukhune United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in DStv Premiership.
