The much anticipated match day one of SAFA National Women’s League (SNWL) kicked off on Saturday, 24 April with a total of 32 goals scored on the day.
The defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns started the season with a comfortable win while last season’s runner-up Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) were held by The University of the Western Cape (UWC).
New comers JVW FC showed Mental toughness to collect three points and scored five goals away in Giyani against Ma-Indies despite arriving in Giyani past midnight after a long drive from Gauteng.
TUT FC 2-2 UWC
TUT and UWC played to an entertaining 2-2 all draw at TUT stadium.
In a game of brilliant long range goals, Mapule Rakgoale opened the scoring for TUT in the 26th minute with a well struck shot from just outside the box. Not to be undone, Snegugu Zondi equalized ten minutes later for UWC with a looping long range shot from the right to make it 1-1 going into the break.
Katlego Kwinana restored TUT’S lead in the 86th minutes with another quality goal before UWC left back Antonia Maponya leveled matters in referees optional time with another strike from outside the box.
Mamelodi Sundowns 4-0 Golden Ladies
Mamelodi Sundowns scored four unanswered goals as they claimed a comfortable 4-0 win over Golden Ladies at Groenkloof Stadium.
Sundowns, who boost a number of Banyana Banyana internationals in their scored scored their goals through Bongiwe Thusi in the 26th minute before Lelona Daweti added a second on the stroke of half time to make it 2-0 at halftime. Morifi Chuene added a third two minutes into the second half before Lehlogonolo Mashigo made it 4-0 in the 53rd minute.
