Banyana Fail Olympic Assignment

Banyana Banyana have failed to qualify for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games after a 0-0 second leg draw against nemesis Nigeria at the Loftus stadium on Tuesday night.

Nigeria came into the game with a 1-0 advantage following their first leg win in Abuja, Nigeria, to go through on aggregate.

This is the second successive Olympic Games that Banyana will be missing. Banyana also failed to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games after they were shockingly eliminated by Botswana in the final round.

Coach Desiree Ellis expressed her disappointment at the failure to qualify for the Games.

“We knew that coming into this game we needed to score,” Ellis told the media after the match.

“We also knew that we needed to score as early as possible because the longer the game went on, we became desperate.

“We did not start well, we changed the formation slightly because we needed to score.

“We did not go forward as much as we wanted to in the first half, made a couple of changes in the second half and threw the kitchen sink at them. Unfortunately that elusive goal did not go in and for that we are very disappointed.”
