Barker – We Want To Be Hard To Play Against

Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker says they want to become a team that would be difficult to beat for any opposition.

Stellies head into the Cape derby this weekend as the form side as they are yet to lose in three games, while their neighbours, Cape Town City have lost three of their four league games this season leaving them last on the log with one point.

“We have principles that we want to apply – both in possession and out of possession. We want to become a hard team to play against, a hard team to beat. We don’t want to allow the opposition to have time and space. Once you do become a team that is hard to beat, it lays the foundation to go on and win football matches,” Barker said.

“With five points out of nine…I thought we were unlucky to have not beaten Pirates, especially with our dominance and chances created in the first half. With a bit of luck, that could have been seven points. It was important for us to beat Royal AM at home and it’s important for us to show consistency in the next match. It’s not easy to win back-to-back games but if you do, it’s a massive boost and helps you on the log table.

“We have laid a foundation giving us an opportunity to go to Cape Town City, and get maximum points. If you do get eight points from four games, it would be a good start to the season.”
