Tinkler – I Am Not Panicking

Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler says they are not going to panic despite failing to secure a win in the opening five games after Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Stellenbosch at the DHL Stadium.

City have lost three games and drawn two of their opening five DStv premiership games leaving them last on the log with two points from the possible 15 points.

Asked if the game against kaizer Chiefs was a must win considering they have not won a game this season, Tinkler said although they desperately need a win, there is no need to panic.

“I hope so! A win is what we desperately need. As much as people are saying you have not won, it is still early in the league – go look at the league table and see what happens if we win two games in a row, everything changes. I am not panicking,” Tinkler said at the post-match press conference.

“We go to the Chiefs game looking to get positive results, which is a win. That’s what we need right now, it is a win. But if we go into those games saying it is a must win and apply that pressure to my staff and my players, we are not going to achieve nothing.”

Coach Tinkler added that the team need to stay positive and is adamant that they will soon turn the corner.

“I go into change room and, I am positive. I speak about the positive things we have done, I do it with a smile on my face. As much as I was upset and angry at halftime, and had a go at them, now I must lift them for the next one. I must make them [players] understand there is no time [before the game], it is two days. Mentally, you need to start switching on to the next one, it got to be a positive frame of mind. I have got to stay positive, which I am, I am very positive. I know we will turn this corner.”

City’s next game is against Chiefs at the Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday night. Kick-off is at 19:30.
