Bartlett – We Are Not Playing Bad Football

Cape Town Spurs coach Shaun Bartlett believes his team has not played bad at all despite losing all their opening six games in the DStv Premiership

Bartlett feels the derby clash against Cape Town City on Saturday present a great opportunity to pick up their first win of the season.

“In my opinion, I don’t think we played really bad football in the last couple of games,” Bartlett said.

“We have just been unfortunate in the final third, in both defending and attacking, maybe something we can do better, my players fully understand that.

“I think five out of the six games we have played so far, we have dominated, look at stats, look at chances created.

“Maybe one area we have focussed on a lot in the last couple of weeks, maybe to be a little bit more ruthless, more determine, more committed to put the ball in the back of the net.

“And then, focus again when it comes to defending, it is a collective effort that is needed. The strikers and attacking players always get the awards for winning games but it is the defence that is going to win us games.

“We know what we have to do to win on Saturday.”

Coach Bartlett added that they want to do it for their 12th man – the fans!

“We don’t have a No 12 in our squad because the fans are our 12th man. For the time I have been at Spurs, the fans have been the driving force for us.

“We want to do it for the people and that’s why we wanted this club to be promoted. We are going out to fight for people, players and families.”
