Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are the inaugural Total Energies CAF Women’s Champions League champions after scoring on either side of half-time to win 2-0 against Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies in Cairo on Friday night.
Chuene Morifi opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a beautiful volley finish inside the box after getting on a cross from Andisiwe Mgcoyi.
Sundowns continued to control the game and never allowed the free scoring Ghanaian champions a chance at goal. Banyana ba style enjoyed a 1-0 advantage going into the break.
Mgcoyi made it 2-0 with 64 minutes gone with goal that had to be confirmed by VAR as there was a suspicion of offside.
Hasaacas tried everything to get back into the game but failed to create any clear scoring opportunities. The closest they came to a goal was through a freekick taken on the edge of the box which goalkeeper, Andile Dhlamini saved brilliantly to ensure Sundowns finish the tournament without conceding a single goal.
A late red card for substitute Gina Mogolola was never going to spoil the party as Sundowns won the final by 2-0.
