Kaizer Chiefs produced a heroic display in the first leg of their CAF Champions League semi-final to defeat Wydad Athletic Club 1-0 at the Stade Mohamed V stadium in Morocco.
Chiefs went into the game as an underdog considering that Wydad beat them 4-0 in the group stages and the fact that the home team had not been beaten in six previous home games against any South African sides.
Samir Nurković grabbed the game’s only goal in the 34th minute after sweeping in a cross from Njabulo Blom.
The goal was only confirmed by Video Assistant Referee (VAR) after the assistant referee had raised his flag for offside.
Amakhosi spent majority of the match defending and managed to hold on to an all important away win.
Bruce Bvuma was definitely man of match after producing a brilliant display to make sure Chiefs come back home with a clean sheet. It was clear to see how important the clean sheet was to him as he broke down in tears at the end of the game.
The second leg will be played this coming Saturday at the FNB stadium.
