Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz has emphasised the importance of tactical discipline and concentration as Amakhosi prepare for the highly anticipated Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates.
With emotions and expectations running high ahead of one of South African football’s biggest encounters, Da Cruz wants his players to remain focused on their playing philosophy and execute their game plan despite the intense atmosphere surrounding the fixture.
The Chiefs coach acknowledged that the occasion carries considerable passion, making it essential for his side to maintain its composure and avoid being distracted by the emotion of the derby.
“We want to play a good game in front of our fans. We want to play our model game. We must be focused on the field because we know that it’s an emotional game with a lot of passion around the field,” Da Cruz said.
For the Amakhosi mentor, the priority is not simply to respond to the magnitude of the occasion, but to ensure that his team remains faithful to its approach and produces a performance that supporters can be proud of.
“But for us, the most important thing is to be focused on our model game, on the way that we want to play this game, to give a good image to our fans and to everyone,” he added.
With the Soweto Derby offering both sides an opportunity to make a statement, Da Cruz’s message is clear: Chiefs must channel the emotion of the occasion into a disciplined performance, remain committed to their footballing identity and give their supporters a display worthy of the rivalry.
