DStv Diski Challenge Is Back!

The Premier Soccer League and DStv have announced the return of the highly anticipated eighth season of DStv Diski Challenge, which will kick-off Saturday, 11 September 2021.

The Diski Challenge returns with a bang as we will have the Soweto derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates on Sunday.

“Anchored on the tagline; Woz’Uzobabona (Come See Them in Action), the eighth instalment of the Diski Challenge promises not only to be entertaining for the viewer but engaging and educational on and off the field for players and supporters alike,” reads an official press release.

“COVID-19 means that we won’t be able to host fans in the stadium as yet but that doesn’t mean they won’t still get to see some of the country’s most exciting young football talent strutting their stuff. This season, we want to make sure supporters are still a part of the Diski Challenge and bring them along the journey with us.

“The DStv Diski Challenge provides aspiring academy and reserve team players a platform to develop their skills by playing regularly in a competitive league. The tournament aims to increase the young and talented players’ chances of being promoted to their respective clubs’ first teams, and even European leagues, by exposing them to the rigours of training and expectations of professional football.

“Since its inception in 2014, as the PSL Reserve League, the Diski Challenge has catapulted over 250 academy stars to the professional ranks of the Premiership, Glad Africa Championship, Olympics as well as to leagues abroad. Internationally acclaimed star, Percy Tau being amongst the selected few South African football professionals to have made it into the English Premier League (EPL) and more recently signing with the most successful team in Africa, Al Ahly.

“The initiative continues to be the pipeline for unearthing South Africa’s football talent whilst acting as training ground for the country’s next generation of broadcasters through the on-the-job experience provided to broadcast interns.

“As Africa’s leading sports development investor and broadcaster, MultiChoice prides itself in enriching lives and initiatives such as the DStv Diski Challenge allows the organisation to continue providing South Africans with the opportunity to tell their stories most authentically and bettering their lives.”
