Captain Nompumelelo Nyandeni and forward Gabriela Salgado helped themselves to hattricks as JVW walloped Richmond Ladies 10-2 in their opening match of the season at the Wits Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday.

JVW scored three goals in a space of 20 minutes with goals from Robyn Moodaly just after eight minutes before Mamello Makhabane made it 2-0 five minutes later and Salgado scored her first goal in the 17th minute. Salgado made it 4-0 in the 35th minute before Nyandeni made it 5-0 five minutes before the break.

The visitors pulled one back on the stroke of half time through Nthabiseng Majiya to make it 5-1 at the break.

JVW started the second half like they did the first with Nyandeni making it 7-1 with goals in the 59th and 64th   for her hattrick before Salgado added another goal, also for her hattrick to make it 8-1. The Richmond ladies pulled another goal back through Michelle Sampson to make it 8-2.

Tanna Hollis also got on the act after scoring with five minutes left to make it 9-2 but JVW were not done yet as an own goal by the visitors made it 10-2.

UWC recorded a 2-1 away win against newcomers City Lads

Last season’s top goal scorer Sibulele Holweni opened the scoring in the 26th minute before Sinegugu Zondi made it 2-0 with 46 minutes gone.

City Lads pulled a goal back in the 71st minute through Siphosethu Nojoko after capitalising on an uncharacteristic mistake from HSL goalkeeper of the season Regirl Ngobeni.

The match between Durban Ladies and TUT was postponed due to the damage caused by the floods in KwaZulu Natal.

On Sunday, 2021 Hollywoodbets Super League champions, Mamelodi Sundowns started the defence of their title with a 2-1 win away to Ma-Indies at Giyani stadium.

Debutant Miche Minnies scored the opening goal with 14 minutes gone before Boitumelo Rabale converted the penalty on the half hour mark to make it 2-0.

Valeria Packay pulled a goal back for the home side in the 42nd minute to make it 2-1 at the half time break.
