Jwaneng Knock Pirates Out Of CAF Champions League

Orlando Pirates have crashed out of CAF Champions League following their 5-4 penalties defeat against Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy in the CAF Champions League Second Preliminary Round at Orlando Stadium on Friday night.

Pirates came into the 2nd leg encounter trailing by one goal after their 1-0 defeat in the away leg in Gaborone.

As expected, the Buccaneers dominated proceedings in the first half but had nothing to show for it as the game went into the half time break goalless.

Pirates finally got the much needed equalizing goal on the hour mark when substitute forward Evidence Makgopa’s shot was carried over the line after a deflection inside the penalty area.

Pirates went looking for a goal that could have sent them through to the group stages but it proved elusive as the final whistle came sending the game into the dreaded penalty shootouts.

Pirates’ teenage midfielder Relebohile Mofokeng was the only unfortunate player to miss a penalty as the visitors maintained a perfect 100% rate to win 5-4, and book their spot in the group stages.
