PSL made the announcement at the Lucas Masterpiece Moripe stadium on Wednesday night just before Mamelodi Sundowns played Chippa United in the 2nd leg of the MTN8 semifinal. Sundowns won 1-0 on aggregate to advance to the final where they will face Bidvest Wits. Wits defeated Cape Town City 3-0 to advance to the final.

The draw for the home team was also conducted and Wits were confirmed as the home team for the final. This means Wits will have first options for dressing room, training time at the stadium among other things.

PSL acting Chief Executive, Mato Madlala said she was expecting the people of Mpumalanga and other surrounding areas rally behind the event.

“As the League, it is in our interest to ensure that we spread football to different parts of the country to give our supporters an opportunity to watch Cup finals and we are excited to announce that Mbombela Stadium will host this season’s MTN8 final. We would like to thank the different stakeholders in the city of Mbombela who, firstly, showed interest and cooperation in our discussions. We are looking forward to what we hope will be a great Cup final on 01 October. We also want to thank our partners, MTN for their support,” Madlala said.

Tickets for the MTN8 final will be sold at TicketPro outlets throughout the country. The PSL will communicate ticketing information in due course.

MTN South Africa Chief Consumer Office, Larry Annetts added: “We are very excited to be sharing the MTN8 passion with the people of Mbombela. The MTN8 has visited a number of provinces this year and to be able to conclude it at such a world class venue, in a beautiful, vibrant and friendly city is fitting for the occasion of this magnitude. We have no doubt that the people of Mbombela and soccer fans across the country will come out in their numbers to witness the Wafa Wafa showdown at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday, 01 October as the last team standing walks away with R8 million.”
