Cape Town Spurs head coach Ernst Middendorp says his team is still chasing the impossible in terms of avoiding relegation despite their 3-1 victory over AmaZulu on Saturday at Athlone stadium.
Despite making wholesale changes to the team with only one player starting against AmaZulu from Middendorp’s starting XI in December 2023, Spurs picked up their second win of the DStv Premiership season. Spurs now have seven points, and trail Richards Bay in 15th by Six points.
Middendorp told the media after the match that his team will continue to fight to remain in the DStv Premiership next season despite chasing the impossible and not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel yet.
“No, as I said and I will not change and I said it very clear before the game and it was even part of our team talk, I said we’re chasing something impossible,” Middendorp said.
“That’s the reality. The chasing impossible means you have four points out of 16 games.
“I don’t even want to mention where the other teams are.
“But now you turn a team from one side to the other. We’re chasing something impossible, and chasing is allowed and chasing is what we are doing.
“What we have to do, as long as we think about, as long as we have a little bit of hope to do so.
“And I’m not talking about that we are now seeing the end of the tunnel. There is no light at the end of the tunnel, not yet.”
