Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates midfielder Tyren Arendse says although it is not always the favourites that win in a knockout competition, he still expect to see Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates in the final of the MTN8.
Kaizer Chiefs will be home to Sundowns in the first leg of their clash on Saturday, 02 September 2023 at FNB Stadium, while Stellenbosch FC host Orlando Pirates in their first leg encounter on Sunday, 03 September 2023 at Athlone Stadium.

“It is exciting that when you look at the two semi-finals, Chiefs v Sundowns, everybody expect Sundowns to win the game but you never know in cup competitions, chiefs might just spring a surprise and beat Sundowns,” Arendse told Diski Voice.
“On the other hand , if you look at Stellies v Pirates, again, 1st league game of the season, Stellies beat Pirates at home but since that game, Pirates form has been much better, they have improving. The only difference in that game, Pirates could not score goals, after that Pirates is full of confidence, and scoring goals. Will it be a case of maybe people might say Stellies are the under dogs, but they might pull one under Pirates.
“Last season, Chiefs played AmaZulu, and people were saying Chiefs is going to win, AmaZulu beat Chiefs. The other semi-final was Sundowns and Pirates, first game they drew 0-0, second leg Pirates beat Sundown 3-0, lots of people said Sundowns is going to win because of what they were doing in the league. So, it is very difficult, it is not always the team that is the favourite, sometimes it might be down to who want it more on the day.
“But if I have to put my head on the block, I will definitely say Pirates will beat Stellies and Sundowns will beat Chiefs, so we looking forward to a Sundowns and Pirates final.”
