The Premier Soccer League (PSL) have announced that this weekend’s Multichoice Diski Challenge Festival have been moved away from the Philippi Stadium in Cape Town due to security concerns.
The PSL statement in full:
The PSL regrets to advise that the scheduled MultiChoice Diski Challenge festival over this weekend at Phillip Stadium has had to be moved to another venue, but the matches will NOT be open to the public.
The new venue is still to be confirmed.
The reasons for the cancellation are that on Thursday, 14 January 2016, there was a security and planning meeting at the stadium and, at the meeting it emerged that the venue was non-compliant. This came about because the event was unexpectedly classified as a medium risk event, when the League applied for a low risk event.
The PSL would like to apologise to members of the public who had already been issued with tickets to attend the MDC festival this Saturday or Sunday. Because the event is now a closed event, members of the public will not be able to attend.
