Stellenbosch Football Club have confirmed the signing of former Kaizer Chiefs development midfielder Darrel Matsheke.
Matsheke joins Stellies on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract with Chiefs at the end of June 2023.
The 24-year-old is seen as a replacement for former Stellies tough man Sibongiseni “OX” Mthethwa who coincidentally left Stellies for Amakhosi.
Stellies head coach Steve Barker believes “DM” adds quality to his team.
“Darrel adds quality and depth to our midfield positions, specifically as a defensive midfielder,” Barker said.
“He is technically sound, plays with a lot of energy and intensity, and has the ability to break down attacks, and once he has done that he has the ability to then progress the ball either through the quality of his passing or by carrying the ball.
“We welcome him to the SFC family and are confident that he will add much value to our squad.”
