Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs progressed to the 2022 MTN8 semi-finals after victories over SuperSport United and Stellenbosch FC on Sunday.
Two second half goals from newly signed duo of Marcelo Allende and Abubeker Nasir were enough for Sundowns to score a comfortable 2-0 victory over their Tshwane rivals SuperSport United at the Tuks Stadium on Sunday evening.
Out at the Danie Craven Stadium, Itumeleng Khune saved two penalties as Chiefs beat Stellenbosch 4-3 on penalties after the teams could not be separated in 120 minutes after the game ended 1-1.
Stellies opened the scoring through Sihle Nduli after a mistake at the back by defender Njabulo Ngcobo. Ashley du Preez scored the equalizer against his former side after also capitalizing on a mistake by young defender Oshwin Andries.
Both teams joined AmaZulu FC and Orlando Pirates in the semi-finals. The draw will be conducted on Monday at 20h30 on SuperSport channel 202 show, Extra Time.
