Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp believes the international break comes at a right time as it will afford some of his players time to regenerate after starting the season without much of a break because of involvement in the international tournaments during off season.
Amakhosi’s next match will be on 14 September against Polokwane City, which will be 18 days from their last encounter against Cape Town City.
On being asked if the upcoming two weeks break due to FIFA international week as well as MTN8 semi-finals will kill his team momentum, Middendorp was quick to answer “killing the momentum? NO”.
Middendorp says the break will give him time to manage workload of players like Khama Billiat and Lazarous Kambole.
“As I said, we are going through individual periodization meaning we have to be very careful with some players like Lazarous. We started with him on the 24th of June 2019 and he played his last game) on the 20th of June 2019 with his previous team (Zesco United of Zambia, just four/five days before he was in the cup final and he played COSAFA Cup and we have to manage him. Middendorp said.
“Same with Khama Billiat, it is fine that he was part of these two games but since 2015 he never had a break in between the seasons. It is something we need to be clear in our structure to look into it and load the players adequately to what their individual DNA is asking for. That is what we are doing in particular in the next two weeks to be right prepared for Polokwane City.”
