Bafana Bafana secure bronze medal at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 in Côte d’Ivoire after beating DR Congo 6-5 on penalties following a 0-0 stalemate in regulation time on Saturday night.

It was a Bafana captain Ronwen Williams inspired win once again as he made two crucial saves during the penalty shootout including the final kick from Meschak Elia during sudden death to secure victory for Bafana.

The game itself was a typical third-place match lacking in intensity and energy. The two sides failed to create much, especially in the first half but the second half was not much different.

The game finished at 0-0 and it was really befitting that it went straight to penalties.

Teboho Mokoena took the first penalty, and as in the Nigeria game, he failed to convert. Then , Congo converted the first four penalties before Williams saved the last penalty to send sudden death.
