Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker feels the lesson learned from their recent two semi-finals defeats will be key going into their Carling Knockout semi-final clash against Richards Bay on Saturday at the King Zwelithini Stadium.

Stellies recently lost two semi-finals to Sekhukhune United and Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup and MTN8 respectively.

“I think that it is important to take as lessons learned,” Barker said.

“Two semi-finals losses, both on penalties and away goal rule. It was difficult to swallow at the time, but I think those experiences will give us the knowledge on how to approach a third semi-final in a short space of time.

“That is what happens in life, sometimes you do not overcome certain obstacles but the important part is to learn from those experiences and make sure the next opportunity you get, you take it with both hands”

Coach Barker also confirmed that their preparations are going well, and will have a full squad to select from as the are no injuries or suspensions.

“Preparations are going well,” Barker added.

“As you rightly say, a massive opportunity for us as a football club and a team to reach the final.

“Preparations are going well, there is no injury or suspensions, so a full squad to select from. The team is in good space with some recent good results. So, I trust that the belief and confidence that we have had we can take to Saturday, but also understanding that a semi-final is never an easy game, form goes out the window. I am sure Richard’s Bay would want to turn their season around by getting into the final.

“We have to understand and accept that it is going to be tough. But at the same time we are confident going into the match that we can get into the final.”
