Banyana Held By Burkina Faso

Banyana Banyana have it all to do in the 2nd leg following their 1-1 draw with Burkina Faso in the first leg of the 2024 WAFCON Qualifiers on Thursday at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium, Ivory Coast.

There were not many chances created in the first half with only Thembi Kgatlana’s disallowed goal in the 38th minute the only real goal mouth action in the first half.

Hildah Magaia gave Banyana a lead in the 56th minute before Yasso Konate levelled matters for Burkina Faso 12 minutes later.

Janine Van Wyk, who is being rewarded with ”free caps” in an attempt to make her the most capped player in Africa, started the match and captained the side.  This was her record equaling 184th cap to level the record set by Ahmed Hassan of Egypt.

Van Wyk is now expected to earn what would be an African record 185th cap in the return leg.

The second leg will be played on Monday, 4 December 2023 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium and will be Live on SABC Sport.
