Derby Own-Goal Credited To Masilela

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has confirmed that the own-goal conceded by Kaizer Chiefs in the derby on Saturday was credited to Tsepo Masilela by the match officials.

The goal came after Thembinkosi Lorch’s effort, which was clearly off target, was deflected towards goal by Masilela but also hit Itumeleng Khune on its way into net.

The double deflection caused confusion as different media houses credited the goal to Khune and some to Lorch.

PSL released a statement clarifying the confusion:

“Please be advised that the match officials credited Orlando Pirate’s only goal in the Absa Premiership fixture against Kaizer Chiefs (Saturday, 04 March 2017) to Kaizer Chiefs defender Tsepo Masilela (as an own goal – 33rd minute).”

The Soweto derby ended 1-1.
