DStv Premiership Sunday round-up

Footballer of the season, Themba Zwane scored a first half hat-trick as Mamelodi Sundowns beat AmaZulu 4-3 in the DStv Premiership match at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Lehlohonolo Majoro gave AmaZulu an early lead when he intercepted a back pass from Ricardo Nascimento before he chipped the ball over goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene to make it 1-0.

Then, Zwane’s show started as he scored an eleven minutes hat-trick to put Masandawana in control of the game with only 30 minutes gone. He levelled matters in the 19th minute and scored his 2nd goal two minutes later to give Sundowns a 2-1 lead before increasing the lead to 3-1 with half an hour gone.

AmaZulu started the 2nd half on the front foot and were awarded a penalty in the 48th minute after Nascimento handled inside the box. Luvuyo Memela’s spot kick was saved but he was in the right position to score on a rebound.

Peter Shalulile restored Sundowns’ two goal advantage in the 56th minute before Sandile Khumalo pulled a goal back for AmaZulu to make it a nervy ending for Sundowns.

Cape Town City 4 – 2 Bloemfontein Celtic

Cape Town City beat Bloemfontein Celtic 4-2 at the Cape Town Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Mduduzi Mdantsane scored the opening goal for City in the 17th minute. Fagrie Lakay made it 2-0 in the 39th minute after he converted a penalty he had won himself.

Celtic pulled a goal back to make it 2-1 when Ndumiso Mabena converted a penalty in the 41st minute but Thabo Nodada immediatley restored the two goals lead when he scored with a long range strike.  City led 3-1 at the break.

Menzi Masuku pulled a goal back for Celtic with 70 minutes gone before Nodada scored his second of the afternoon in the 78th minute to make it 4-2.

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila 1 – 0 Baroka FC

A solitary strike from Justin Shonga in the referee’s optional time was enough to hand TTM a 1-0 victory over Baroka FC at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday afternoon. This was TTM’s first DStv Premiership win.
