Maritzburg United have today, 1 December 2015, confirmed that they have decided to part ways with coach, Clive Barker.
Barker was in charge of only five games after joining the Maritzburg based club in September as a replacement for Mandla Ncikazi, who started the season as coach of the people’s team.
Maritzburg United chairman, Farook Kadodia thanked Barker for taking charge of the team in the first place and giving fringe players a chance, “I want to thank Clive for making himself available under very challenging circumstances.”
” In his short stay we admired the Coach in that he had a vision and saw the need to give a guy like Mphakamiseni Nene an opportunity which he has grabbed with both hands. I wish the Coach all the best for the future.”
Kadodia indicated that the decision to part ways with the coach was necessitated by the desperate position they find themselves in.
“We had a meeting with the Coach and together felt that the task ahead is very difficult and therefore a strategic decision regarding the Club retaining its Premier Soccer League Status had to be made”
“Clive has left a career legacy, but we believe that our current position only dictates that we need to grind results to take ourselves out of the dreaded position we find ourselves in.”
Clive Barker said he decided to resign to put the interests of the club ahead of his own.
“I think the club is on track to turn things around. A special thanks to Fadlu Davids, he is one of the finest Assistant Coaches I have worked with. Thanks to everybody for a pleasant stay. I wish the club well for the rest of the season.”
