PSL Midweek Round-up!

Bidvest Wits moved to the top of Absa Premiership after defeating Orlando Pirates 1-0 at the Orlando stadium  on Wednesday night.

Klate

A howler from Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Felipe Ovono to allow a harmless free-kick from Daine Klate to slip through his fingers and trickle over the line was enough to gift Bidvest Wits all three points.

Ovono went from hero to zero as he had produced a great save to deny Henrico Botes from a penalty kick moments earlier.

Victor Gomes was the centre of attention after producing three red cards in the match. Thulani Hlatshwayo was sent-off in the first half for a horrendous challenge on Sifiso Myeni and Calvin Kadi saw red with 15 minutes left. Pirates’ captain on the day, Lehlohonolo Masalesa was also dismissed with just under ten minutes left.

Mamelodi Sundowns spoiled the party in Bloemfontein after defeating Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 through a goal scored by substitute Anthony Laffor in the 70th minute.

The game was preceded by the ceremony to reopen the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium (now to be known as Dr. Rantlai Petrus Molemela Stadium).

Mpumalanga Black Aces scored two goals in injury time through Lebogang Manyama and Judas Mosemaedi to rescue a point after trailing Platinum stars by 2-0.

Stars had taken the lead through two penalties that were converted by Ndumiso Mabena in the 20th and 66th minute.

Tuesday:

Jomo Cosmos and Kaizer Chiefs played to a goalless draw at the Olen Park. Both teams could feel they should have won the game. Chiefs hit the post couple of times and Sherwin Naicker had to make several saves during the match and was named man of the match.

Charlton Mashumba had two great chances to score for Cosmos, once finding the side netting with the goal at his mercy after beating the Chiefs defense, including their goalkeeper, Reyaad Pieterse.

Golden Arrows compounded pressure on Gordon Igesund after defeating SuperSport United 2-1 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. First half goals from Matome Mathiane and Kudakwashe Mahachi in the 17th and 44th minute respectively had given Abafana Bes’thende a 2-0 lead at half time before Kingston Nkhatha scored a consolation goal in the 66th minute.
