Mamelodi Sundowns defeated JVW FC 4-2 to consolidate their lead at the top of the Hollywoodbets Super League table at the Groenkloof stadium, Pretoria on Saturday afternoon.
With this win, Sundowns have increased their lead to four points over their Saturday opponents, JVW.
Last season’s joint top goal scorer Andisiwe Mgcoyi continued her goal-scoring form when she opened the scoring in the 13th minute for her 10th goal of the season. The lead only lasted two minutes as JVW captain Nompumelelo Nyandeni scored to make it 1-1.
Sundowns captain Zanele Nhlapho converted a penalty with 22 minutes gone to make it 2-1 to the log leaders going into the break.
Salome Kekana made it 3-1 to Sundowns with just under ten minutes left before Rhoda Mulaudzi score the filth goal with five minutes left to make it 4-1.
Nyandeni pulled another goal back for JVW on the stroke of fulltime to make the final score 4-2.
In the Cape town derby, UWC scored a comfortable 4-1 win over Parow based Vasco da Gama at the UWC stadium.
First half goals from Philisa Mjambane, Tiffany Kortje gave UWC a 2-0 lead at halftime. Vasco pulled a goal back before Kortje and Khanya Xesi’s penalty made it an easy 4-1 victory for the home side.
Thunderbirds Ladies were awarded a walkover after the Limpopo side First Touch FC failed to arrive at the match venue.
