Middendorp – Our Target is 15th Place

Cape Town Spurs coach Ernst Middendorp has reiterated that his side is still on track to fight for 15th place despite suffering two successive defeats.

Spurs lost 2-0 to Chippa United on Wednesday night at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium following their weekend 1-0 defeat to Moroka Swallows.

“Position 15 is our target, we said very clear position 15 is our target,” Middendorp said after their defeat to Chippa.

“Position 15 has 14 points, and position 16 where we are, 12 points.

“What should we do? Should we now stop, eight games to go, some protests in the oven. Let’s wait and see how this going.

“I think if I heard today Pirates also put a protest. It would be interesting to see there’s a little bit to talk about.”

When asked if he was disappointed to lose two games against teams in and around the relegation zone, coach Middendorp angrily indicated that it was to be expected from a young team.

“As I said before, we will win 2/3 games, we will play 1/2 draws, and we will lose 2/3 games in a row,” Middendorp added.

“But there is still a situation of 12 and 14 points….you know, some teams get help, you can see.”
