Sekgota Joins Stellies

Stellenbosch have announced the signing of former Kaizer Chiefs forward and South Africa international Kgaogelo Sekgota.

The 26-year-old joins from Chiefs were his contract was terminated by “mutual consent”. The winger is said to have “penned a long-term deal” with the club ahead of the 2023/24 season after spending two years with Amakhosi.

Sekgota made 24 league appearances for Kaizer Chiefs last season.

Stellies coach Steve Barker is delighted to have captured the services of a “massive” player.

“Sekgota is a massive signing for us,” Barker said.

“He’s a player who we earmarked a while back to try and get into the club, so we are delighted that he has now signed with us.

“He’s an exciting attacking player who has good pedigree, having represented his country, and who has the ability to go past players, to create opportunities for his teammates, and to score goals himself.

“We are looking for a massive impact from him and hope to help him get his career back to where it belongs, which is right at the top end of the game.”

He also previously represented Vitória Setúbal in the Portuguese top-flight as well as Bidvest Wits and Swallows FC in the DStv premiership.
