Bafana Stun Morocco To Reach AFCON Quarter-Finals

Two second half goals from Evidence Makgopa and Teboho Mokoena hand Bafana Bafana a hard fought 2-0 win over FIFA World Cup Morocco to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) at Stade Laurent Pokou on Tuesday night.

Bafana fought hard to weather the storm in the first half, only to grab two goals in the second half to stun Africa’s number one ranked country.

Magkopa opened the scoring in the 57th minute after being sent through on goal and made no mistake beating Yassine Bonou between his legs.

The game changing moment came in the 84th minute when Morocco was awarded a penalty filling a handball by Mothobi Mvala. Bafana were relieved when star man Achraf Hakimi smashed his spot-kick against the bar and over.

Then, Mokoena scored with a stunning free-kick deep in added time to make it a comfortable finish for Bafana.

Bafana will face Cape Verde in the quarter-final.
