De Sa: Congratulations to Sundowns!

Ajax Cape Town coach Roger de Sa feels that South African football should be very proud of Mamelodi Sundowns success in the CAF Champions League.

The Brazilians were crowned African Champions on Sunday night when they beat Zamalek 3-1 on aggregate. This was Sundowns first African title since the club was formed back in 1970 and in doing so became only the second South African team to lift the trophy after Orlando Pirates lifted the African clubs most prestige trophy in 1995.

De Sa who lead Orlando Pirates to the Final of the Champions League back in 2013 says he knows how hard it is facing the Egyptians on the own backyard and is happy that Sundowns were able to return home with the trophy.

“First congratulations to Sundowns, I think it’s an achievement that we all got to be proud of and it’s a fantastic achievement, “De Sa said.

“I was fortunate enough to be there couple of years ago and I know how it is like and how difficult it is. I know the preparation and the focus was big in this competition and well done and I think all of us as South Africans and specially the football fraternity can feed off this for sure and hopefully we can build on from here.

“To Pitso (Mosimane), Patrice (Motsepe) and the gan, congrats,” he concluded.

Next Sundowns will take part in the Club tournament in December where they might face UEFA Champions Real Madrid.
