Menzo: My Wingers Are Not Good Enough

Ajax Cape Town coach Stanley Menzo says he was forced to abandon the Ajax way of playing in his side’s 2-0 defeat to Cape Town City on Saturday due to lack of quality left wingers.

Goals from Victor Nsofor Obinna and Judas Moseamedi were enough to condemn the Urban Warriors to their third Cape Town Derby defeat in a row without scoring a single goal.

“If I am honest and I am honest with the players as well. If I look at my left wingers, Neo (Makua) did not give me much in the last few weeks. I don’t mind if you play bad, everybody can play bad but you have to work hard for the team, run back and defend.

“Chris (Ejike Uzoenyi) still has some physical problems and I do not think he is a kind of a player that would run behind the opponent defence. Innocent (Nemukondeni) has not trained for one week and a half.

“That’s why I tried to find other solutions for this game but it did not work out.” Menzo said

Asked if he thinks he has the players that are good enough to play the Ajax way, coach Menzo said he has the right players but they are out-of-form.

“I think, yes in Chris we brought in a winger, Innocent is a winger , Thabo (Mosadi) is a winger, but have we seen Thabo in the last five games? No, it is not the Thabo that we know.

“There are times when players are not on form and you have to try to play different formation for one or two weeks. It is not good because the players are used to playing with wingers but if my wingers are not good enough, I have to find another solution, like today.

“I did not see Thabo take a man today, because he is not on form. That’s a pity, that’s what we are fighting at this momemt. Thabo on form, maybe Chris, Innocent or Neo we will create chances and score goals.” Menzo concluded.

Ajax’s next game is away to Free State Stars after the FIFA International break.
