Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have been charged and pleaded guilty to charges of spectator misbehaviour.
Chiefs were charged after their fans throw missiles during their 1-0 defeat in the Soweto Derby, while Pirates were charged for the same offence in their 4-1 defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns. Both teams pleaded guilty to the charges.
Chiefs were charged as follows:
R100.000 of which R50.000 was suspended on condition that the club is not found guilty of the same offence in the next 12 months.
In total, Chiefs must pay R150 000 as they had an existing suspended charge of R100.000 from similar offence in November 2024.
Pirates were charged as follows:
R100.000 of which R25.000 was suspended on condition that the club is not found guilty of the same offence in the next 12 months
In total, Pirates must pay R125 000 as they also had an existing suspended charge of R50.000 from a previous offence.
The PSL Disciplinary Committee (PSL DC) also ordered both clubs to publish these sanctions on their respective websites within seven days from Thursday, 20 February , hoping that this will send a message to the two clubs’ fans that this type of behaviour only serves to punish their clubs and not the perpetrators themselves.
The two Soweto giants will share the costs of the hearing as they were charged with one sitting.
