Chiefs came into the game as underdogs after failing to win a game in the league since January and in contrast, Pirates were the form team having won three of the last four games.

Amakhosi scored the only goal of the match in the 54th minute through a stunning overhead kick from Samir Nurkovic. The goal came after Pirates defence failed to clear a freekick from Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, allowing the ball to bounce in the box before Nurkovic produced a stunning finish.

Amakhosi had chances to put the game beyond doubt with their best chance falling to Nurkovic in the 77th minute but he sent his effort wide with only the keeper to beat.

Pirates pushed for an equalizer but Chiefs defence stood strong to the end to hand Chiefs a much needed win in the 100th Soweto derby.
