A Solitary goal from debutant Ronnel Donnelly was enough as University of the Western Cape (UWC) beat high flying Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 in the Hollywoodbets Super League at UWC Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
The key moment of the game came in the 79th minute of game after UWC were awarded a free kick on the far right. UWC Coach, Thinasonke Mbuli stopped Fikile Magama from taking a quick free kick as she was about to make a substitution, in came the debutant Donnelly for Philisa Mjambane.
From the resulted free kick, Donnelly rose highest to guide a header past keeper Maitumelo Bosija with her very first touch.
UWC showed nerves of steel in the remaining ten minutes as they kept Sundowns at bay to walk away with three points.
This victory should give UWC confidence for the rest of the season as Banyana Ba Style came into the fixture on a high following three straight wins to start the season. Sundowns were also on a run of 16 straight wins in all competitions.
