Komphela Rejoins Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that coach Steve Komphela has returned to the club as a Senior Coach.

Komphela left Sundowns just before the start of 2023/24 season to join Moroka Swallows following an alleged tiff with then head coach, Rhulani Mokwena.

He left the financially struggling Swallows in March 2024 and joined Golden Arrows until the end of last season before making a dramatic return to the DStv premiership champions.

Following his departure from Sundowns, Komphela was quoted saying “I know of coaches we worked with, you would never get anywhere close to their briefcase. They create four pin codes for their laptops. They hide information like a nuclear weapon pin code,” in apparent dig at Mokwena.

According to a statement from the club, Komphela will “assist Manqoba Mngqithi and the Technical Team.”

Komphela expressed his excitement on his return.

“I am very excited to be back at Mamelodi Sundowns where I was always inspired and treated with respect and love,” Komphela said via a statement released by the club.

“I am committed to contributing to the Club achieving its goals in South Africa and on the African Continent.”

Sundowns is currently in pre-season and will be leaving the country for Austria in a few days to continue its pre season preparations in Europe.
