Sundowns Are African Champions!

Mamelodi Sundowns are the CAF Champions League champions despite losing 1-0 to Zamalek in the second-leg in Alexandria, Egypt.

It was always going to be a tall order for Zamalek to turnaround the 3-0 first leg heavy defeat in Pretoria.

Stanley Ohawuchi ‘s goal in the 64th minute turned out to be just a consolation goal for the home side as they lost 3-1 on aggregate.

Although Sundowns lost Dennis Onyango through injury in the 28th minute, his replacement, Wayne Sandilands did not seem to affect their defensive structure as they stood strong against the relentless attack from the home side.

Sundowns walks away with $1.5 million prize money and a place at the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan in December.

Sundowns are only the second team from South Africa to win the champions league after Orlando Pirates were crowned champions back in 1995.
