Sundowns will play Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final in June after they defeated Stellenbosch FC 2-1 at the Danie Craven Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Khuliso Mudau and Thembinkosi Lorch scored for Masandawana, while Genino Palace pulled a goal back for Stellies.
Mudau scored the opening goal in the 11th minute from an acute angle after finding space on the right with Stellies’s left back, Fawaaz Basadien down injured.
There was a long delay when assistant referee Zakhele Siwela suffered a hamstring injury that forced him to swap positions with fourth official Christopher Kistoor.
The delay resulted in the referee playing additional 13 minutes at the end of the first half that eventually ended with Sundowns still leading 1-0.
Thembinkosi Lorch doubled the lead in the 74th minute with a header from Peter Shalulile’s cross.
Then, Shaulile missed a penalty in the 80th, before substitute Genino Palace pulled one back for Stellies with eight minutes left to make it a nervous final stages for Masandawana.
Sundowns were drawn to be the home team when they clash with Pirates in the final at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday, 1 June.
