Pirates Progress To Second Successive Nedbank Cup Final

Pirates progressed to their second successive Nedbank Cup final after seeing off 10-man Chippa United 3-1 in the semi-final at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Gqeberha on Saturday afternoon.

Kabelo Dlamini scored a first half brace before substitute Elmo Kambindu pulled a goal back for Chippa early in the second half. Thapelo Xoki score the Buccaneers’ third goal inside the last ten minutes.

Dlamini’s well-taken free-kick in the 4th minute gave Pirates an early advantage. Dlamini doubled Pirates’ lead with a clinical finish from inside the box after an assist from Patrick Maswanganyi to make it 2-0 to Pirates at halftime.

Kambindu pulled one goal back after 63 minutes but Pirates captain Xoki added restored the two goals advantage with nine minutes.

Chippa suffered a set back when forward Eva Nga was sent off after receiving his second yellow card with two minutes left.

The Buccaneers will face the winner between Stellenbosch and Mamelodi Sundowns in the final to be played at Mbombela Stadium the first of June.
