Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker says losing two consecutive MTN8 finals is a “bitter pill to swallow” but remain proud of his team for making the finals.
Stellies were emphatically beaten 3-0 by Orlando Pirates in extra-time on Saturday at Mbombela Stadium having lost last season’s MTN8 final 3-1, also to the Buccaneers.
“It is a bitter pill to swallow,” Barker told the media after the final.
“It’s two years in a row now, but if we are still making finals and we are competing the way we are, then I’ve got to be proud and happy of what the players have achieved.
“It is always lessons learnt when you lose matches like this evening, we learned some lessons again. We are a team that has the ability to bounce back and we need to get up as quickly as possible, get over the defeat and focus on league matches and improve our position on the log.”
The Winelands based Stellies will be hoping to bounce back against AmaZulu in their Betway Premiership clash at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday.
