Ajax Cape Town have confirmed that they have accepted their fate and are going to play in the National First Division (NFD) in the 2018/2019 season.
This comes after Judge Denise Fisher granted the National Soccer League (NSL) leave to appeal judgement that set aside Advocate William Mokhari SC’s ruling that had resulted in Ajax being relegated to the National First Division (NFD).
Subsequently, Ajax withdrew their urgent application to interdict the start of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) season and their section 18, which would have forced the implementation of Judge Fisher’s original judgement pending the finalisation of the appeal process.
Ajax CEO Ari Efstathiou told reporters on Friday afternoon that they are “forced” to take their place in the NFD while waiting for the finalisation of the appeal.
“We are now forced to take our place in the NFD unless something happens during the appeal process. The process can take anything from 4-12 weeks and if we are successful which we think we would be. What then?
“It is something that has probably not happen to any other club. To be frank, it could have happened to any other club as it happened to us. It could have been Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs or any other small club and I trust the process would have followed the same procedure.
“But we did fight for the truth and what we believe was right,” Efstathiou said.
Efstathiou promised Ajax supporters that the team will be back in the PSL within one season.
