Banyana Coach Ellis Named CAF Coach Of The Year

Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis was named as Africa Women’s Coach of the Year at the 2022 Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Awards in Rabat, Morocco on Thursday, 21 July 2022.

This is the third CAF Coach of the Year Award for Banyana Banyana Coach having also won it in 2018 and 2019.

Ellis has led Banyana to the last FIFA World Cup in France and has also qualified for the next tournament in Australia and New Zealand.

Coach Ellis will be hoping to finally lead Banyana to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title when they face hosts Morocco in the final at the Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Rabat on Saturday night.

In more good news for South Africa, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies were named Africa’s Women’s Club of the Year after winning their domestic league and the inaugural Champions League in Egypt in 2021.

The women’s National Team of the Year will be named after Saturday’s WAFCON final.
