Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker sends a strong message to the teams that might be looking towards his team for players, especially Bafana Bafana International midfielder, Jayden Adams.
When asked about whether they are willing to part ways with their 23-years old, Barker insinuated that his players would cost teams a lot more than in the past as their value has since gone up since they won a trophy and qualified for continental football.
“I get asked this question over and over and I never have definitive answers because I don’t know what the future holds but the better you become as a football club, winning cups and being second, players making Bafana, their value goes up,” Barker told the media when asked about Sundowns’ interest in the the Bafana Bafana star.
“So if clubs are gonna come look for our players, I don’t think it’s gonna be easy as it was in the past.
“Number one, from the economic and financial point of view, if you’ve got players sitting on the bench for Sundowns that were costing R40m what reason is that Jayden Adams is not worth that, maybe more?
Coach Barker added that he is confident that he will retain the bulk of his squad.
“We ain’t playing in Africa before, we were not challenging enough to win trophies,” Barker added.
“Now you’ve won a trophy, you playing in Africa so it’s more difficult for them to just say we want this, we want that one, it will be tough.
“We are confident that we can retain our squad. In maybe situation here and there we will have to maybe consider but right now as we sit here there’s no talk, there’s no offers no one is for sale.”
