Onyango produced two brilliant saves to deny Simphiwe Tshabalala and Camaldine Abraw from the spot with Sundowns leading 2-0 at the time.

Pitso Mosimane’s boys made a perfect start, opening the scoring inside five minutes. Tebogo Langerman sent in a diagonal cross from the left to Khama Billiat who volleyed a perfect cross onto the head of Leonardo Castro to score.

Sundowns continued to attack Chiefs with pace and were unlucky not to increase the lead before halftime with the chances they created. Themba Zwane wasted what was probably the best chance of the half when he sent a curling shot wide from the edge of the box.

Mosimane made a change at half time bringing in Teko Modise for the goalscorer, Castro. It was Modise who delivered a corner kick that was headed in by Captain on the day, Thabo Nthethe to make it 2-0 six minutes into the second half.

A minute later, George Lebese had a great chance to pull a goal back, one-on-one with Onyango, he sent his effort wide.

With the game getting away, Steve Komphela made three chances, replacing Lucky Baloyi, Hendrik Ekstein and Edward Manqele with Bernard Parker, Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Abraw.

Chiefs won a penalty on the hour mark after Nthethe fouled Parker. Onyango dived to his left to deny Tshabalala.

Chiefs were awarded another penalty in the 73rd minute after Nthethe handled the ball but once again, Onyango dived to his left to deny Abraw.

Sundowns finished the game off with just under ten minutes left when Hompho Kekana scored the 3rd.

Abraw scored a consolation goal for Chiefs in stoppage time when Sundowns were already “celebrating”.
